Please confirm Cowden once offered Jock Stein the manager’s post at Central Park?

Answer: Jock was offered his first managerial post by Cowden in 1958 as successor to John Dougary.  He turned it down as he was coaching Celtic Colts then and felt he could advance his career at Parkhead.  Andy Young didn’t take the job either and ex-Aberdeen skipper Jimmy Mitchell eventually got the berth.  Later, when Jock found he wasn’t seemingly in line for promotion from the ranks at Celtic Park he took the Dunfermline job.  Jock was sent off just once in his career.  That was v Cowden when playing for Albion Rovers at Central Park.  He also missed a penalty v Cowden for the Rovers.

Thanks for getting back to me as I explained I am a writer for Hollyoaks and one of the characters in the show is a Cowdenbeath fan.  I wonder therefore if you could verify a couple of facts for me.  My questions are who has scored the most goals in a season for Cowdenbeath?  So far I’ve seen Rab Walls with 54 (1938/39) and Willie Devlin with 40 (1925/26) given as the answer.  Does the club crest of Cowdenbeath have a particular name or history?  Thanks for your time and I hope you manage to put me out of my misery.  Best of luck to the team for the rest of the season.
