Austin joined the coaching staff during the close season after a spell coaching abroad followed by a highly successful first season as a manager in his own right with Cupar Hearts - leading the Duffus Park side to their most successful season ever which included guiding them to Hampden for their first Scottish Amateur Cup Final since 1957 and winning the Fife Amateur Cup for the firs time.

Austin only returned to the Uk last year after a colourful professional career abroad spending 8 years playing professionally in the USA, Romania and Japan before his caree was ended through knee injury.
