Jay Shields signed from Greenock Morton on an 18 month contract during the January window. The tough tackling full-back or midfielder is the brother of former Cowden star Dene.

Shields started his career at Hibernian making 20 appearances for the SPL side after a loan spell with Berwick Rangers. He was unable to dislodge Steven Whittaker from the Hibs team and made 19 starts on loan at Dundee before moving onto Morton for the 2007/08 campaign where he made 19 appearances for the Greenock side this season.
