It was derby day joy for the Blue Brazil as 1st half goals from Brian Fairbairn and Jon Robertson sealed the win in the early kick off at Central Park as Danny Lennon's men leapfrogged Brechin City into second place in the Irn-Bru 2nd Division table.
The home side came out with all guns blazing and put East Fife to the sword after only 2 minutes. Robertson's effort was blocked by Baillie but former East Fife man 'Frankie' Fairbairn was on hand to fire home his first goal of the season from 4 yards.
At this stage it looked a case of 'how many' as Cowden consistently opened up the New Bayview sides rearguard but Stevie Crawford scored a shock equaliser after 12 minutes from his sides only real effort on target in the 1st half.
Justice was restored 2 minutes later thought when Robertson kept up his goalscoring form and swept home from 12 yards after the visitors failed to clear their lines.
Cowden's movement, incisive passing and pace was causing East Fife all sorts of problems but the away side avoided any further damage before the interval.
Cowden's big spending Fife neighbours came out in determined mood after the break but their one dimensional style was met by heroic defending and a couple of top class saves from David Hay. At the other end, Cowden created chance after chance on the counter attack but could not put the game out of sight but saw the game out to extend the undefeated run to five games.
