MATCH PREVIEW – MORTON

After a week’s break due to the William Hill Scottish Cup we return to Championship action on Saturday afternoon when we face Morton at Cappielow with a 3 p.m. kick off.
It should be an intriguing contest as manager Jimmy Nicholl goes head to head with fellow Northern Irishman Kenny Shiels who he assisted at Kilmarnock for two years during which time the duo brought the Scottish League Cup to Rugby Park.

The 57 year old took over at Cappielow in December following the departure of Allan Moore the previous month after a poor start to the campaign which saw the Greenock side rooted to the foot of the league table.
Since then he has almost rebuilt the Ton side with several players departing, including Nacho Novo who this week signed a short term deal with Carlisle United.
High profile signings at Cappielow have been former Scotland internationalist Garry O’Connor and the man with the most famous beard in Scottish football Rowan Vine who has been signed on loan from Hibernian.

The two previous meetings between the sides this season have seen each side win their home game.
On the opening day of the Championship season back in sunny August goals goal’s in each half from Reece Hands and Archie Campbell gave the Ton a 2-0 win at Cappielow with us ending the game with ten men after Thomas O’Brien was sent off in the closing minutes.
The return game at Central Park in mid- October saw a 5-1 home win with Kane Hemmings bagging a hat trick along with goals from Jordan Morton and Greg Stewart, with Dougie Imrie getting Morton’s consolation strike.
