Match Preview: Cowdenbeath v Dumbarton

Posted November 13, 2009

The Blue Brazil are home again on Saturday after their 1-0 win against Clyde at Broadwood last Saturday lifted Cowden into top spot. Dumbarton are this week's opponents who are the division's other form team so it has the making of the SFL's game of the day.

Danny Lennon has a positive selection headache with Jay Stein and Brian Fairbairn returning from illness and injury respectively while Mark Baxter played again for the Reserves on Tuesday night and will be pushing for a place. Scott McBride will also be in contention after coming off the bench to score the winner last weekend.

Cowden have been in fine form this season, the win over Clyde extended the unbeaten run to six games and the side have only lost once in the league since the 15th of August, leading to Lennon's richly deserved Irn-Bru Second Division Manager of the Month award for October.

"I was surprised to win the award but delighted that the players and coaching staff's hard work has been recognised", commented Lennon.

"It was a difficult start to the season after losing the first two games and suffering a number of suspensions and injuries. But the boys bounced back and the younger lads have really risen to the occasion.

"It was a terrific achievement to go top of the league last Saturday but we will continue to take it one game at a time and our focus is now on Dumbarton and another three points. Dumbarton have improved a lot since we last met and are now one of the form teams so we are under no illusion about how difficult opponents they will be."

The Sons are also in great form though and have only lost once since losing 3-0 against the Blue Brazil back in September. Indeed, Jim Chapman's team are unbeaten in their last five league matches and have not lost away from home since August.

Saturday's mascot is six-year old Ellie Bathgate who attends McLean Primary School in Dunfermline. Her Grandad is Hookie Bathgate who is a life long Cowden fan.
