Callum Gallagher's fourth goal of the season gave us a narrow win over Livingston at Central Park on Saturday afternoon which initially saw us go two points ahead of the West Livingston side, but with a points deduction imposed by the SPFL board on Monday afternoon we are now seven points ahead of the now bottom of the table West Lothian side.
Both sides went into the game knowing the loser would occupy bottom spot and in a tense first half there were few chances from either side but the breakthrough eventually came in 54 minutes when Gallagher broke through on goal and coolly slotted the ball past Darren Jamieson.
We had chances to increase our lead but after failing to take them Livi had a late rally on the Cowden goal but found Robbie Thomson in inspired form as he kept his second clean sheet of the campaign to take the Man of the Match award from sponsor and club chairman Donald Findlay QC.
It was a well timed three points for Jimmy Nicholl's side who now take a break from the Championship on Saturday as we face Falkirk in the William Hill Scottish Cup, as when the league campaign resumes when have successive games against the top three sides.
