MATCH PREVIEW - EDINBURGH CITY (H)

Posted August 11, 2017

It's week 2 in Ladbrokes League Two and we welcome Edinburgh City to Central Park for our opening home league match with a 3 p.m. kick off.

Last Saturday saw Billy Brown's young side earn a point in the league opener following a 1-1 draw at Borough Briggs against Elgin City.

The manager had five teenagers in his side last week, including Ali Smith who signed on at Central Park on Friday after appearing as a trialist.

As Billy continues to look to add to his squad, he hopes to have another player out on trial against City.

Visitors Edinburgh City opened their league campaign with a 3-1 home defeat from Montrose at their new base - Ainslie Park where they will spend the next three years as Meadowbank Stadium gets redeveloped.

Its not just a new stadium for City but also a new look side with several players who helped them to successive Lowland League titles and consolidated their place in League Two have now moved on including a few who have joined landlords Spartans. Stalwarts Joe Mbu and Dougie Gair also retired at the end of last season.

One player who will be missing for the visitors will be Shaun Harrison who is suspended after being red carded against Montrose.

This will be the 15th league meetings between the sides dating back to 1934 with Cowden having won seven times to City's two with five draws. We have the other two competitive games between the sides both in the Scottish Cup with the cup meeting in season 35/36 drawing a record crowd of 5400 to City Park - I think it will be a wee bit less this weekend!
