Dumbarton 2 Cowdenbeath 1

Posted January 24, 2010

Dumbarton ended Cowden's long unbeaten run thanks to a last minute goal from substitute Ross Clark which secured a 2-1 win and the three points for the home side.

The Blue Brazil started the game on the front foot and had their rusty hosts chasing shadows as their passing and movement opened up the Dumbarton defence at will. Jon Robertson should have opened the scoring in the first minute and it was no surprise when Mark Baxter bravely broke the deadock after 29 minutes - taking a sore one in the process. The one sided half continued but somehow the score remained only 1-0 at the interval.

However, Danny Lennon's team failed to show up for the 2nd half - the loss of the influential Gareth Wardlaw to illness did not help - and paid the ultimate price for failing to kill of the Sons in the opening 45 minutes. Dumbarton dominated possession from kick off and it was inevitable that the equaliser would finally come and Roddy Hunter duly delivered after a goal mouth scramble on 65 minutes.

At this stage there looked like there was only going to be one winner but Cowden looked to have weathered the storm until Clark scrambled home with seconds remaining.

On  the plus side, Darren McGregor made his long awaited comeback from the bench.
