MATCH PREVIEW - PETERHEAD (A)

Posted February 23, 2018

Ahead of two away games in the coming week we have a home game with second place Peterhead at Central Park on Saturday with a 3pm kick off.

The Blue Toon, who sit five points behind leaders Montrose with a game less played, have won the two previous games between the sides this season.

On their last visit to Central Park back in September Peterhead ran out 4-0 winners with three goals in the opening 22 minutes from Allan Smith (2) and Willie Gibson while Scott Brown completed the scoring in the second half.

It was a much tighter affair at Balmoor just before Christmas when an injury time goal saw Gary Bollan suffer his first defeat as Cowden boss following three draws.

Cameron Muirhead had given us a first half lead but goals from Rory McAllister and Jason Brown put Jim McInally's side into the lead early in the second half only for Robbie Buchanan to quickly level the score.

However Buchanan was red carded after a clash with Gibson and we saw the closing stages out with ten men but failed to secure a point at the last gasp with Jordon Brown scoring the winner with the last kick of the game.

David Cox returns from his one game suspension for the game against his old side and there are hopes that Buchanan will also be able to take part after missing last weeks defeat at Clyde with a broken hand. However captain Scott Rumsby misses his first game of the season due to a one game suspension.

For Peterhead it looks likely that top scorer McAllister will miss the trip south after suffering an ankle injury at Annan in midweek in a 3-3 draw, however his replacement Russell McLean came off the bench and scored a hat trick!
