MATCH PREVIEW - BERWICK RANGERS (H)

Posted January 4, 2019

We kick off our 2019 fixtures with a visit from Berwick Rangers on Saturday with a 3pm kick off at Central Park.

So far we have held the upper hand over the Borders this season with two wins which have seen us score seven goals without reply. The first meeting at Central Park back in August saw a 4-0 victory with both Jordyn Sheerin and Pat Scullion scoring against their old side along with Martin Scott and Robbie Buchanan while both sides ended the afternoon with ten men after Kyle Miller and Robert Wilson were sent off in the closing stages.

The return game at Shielfield Park saw a 3-0 win for us with Harvey Swann bagging a brace for us along with Fraser Mullen with the Berwick trio of John Neill, Wilson again, and Chris Hamilton being sent off in what was manager Johnny Harvey's first league game in charge after taking over from Robbie Horn.

Last Saturday's game with Edinburgh City was Harvey's tenth league and cup game in charge since taking over with a record of having won three, drawn two and lost five. Although drawing with the league leaders it would have been a boost coming back from two down to score twice in the dying minutes of the game to claim a point.

Since taking over the new manager has made a few additions to his squad with Lewis Barr, Andrew Forbes and Craig Hume all being signed from his old club Penicuik Athletic after featuring as trialists while former Cowden keeper Kyle Allison was also signed up after playing with the East of Scotland League side last season, while on Friday Matthew Knox was signed on loan from Premiership side Livingston.

Berwick currently sit in ninth place with 14 points from their 17 games, eight ahead of bottom place Albion Rovers.

For us both Jason Talbot and Robbie Deas will both be on the side lines as they serve suspensions with the club failing in an appeal against Deas sending off at Forthbank last Saturday in the 2-1 defeat from Stirling Albion while Josh Skelly's loan comes to and end after the match.
