Player Of The Year 2019/20

Posted May 2, 2020

Cowdenbeath FC’s Player of the Year ceremony this year unfortunately had to be a virtual one — in a sense it was held at e-Jimmies instead of Wee Jimmies! There were two awards — the CFC Player of the Year and the CFC Players’ Player of the Year.

Voting was brisk for both awards but there was unanimity that one man deserved both. So step up Craig Barr who has won both the respect of the Cowden fans but also that of his peers on the playing staff (Craig has also been Players’ Player of the Year previously at both Livingston and Dumbarton). Thus it is congratulations from everyone at Central Park to Mango – for what is truly a marvellous achievement at any club to scoop both awards — the accolade is well deserved and he has made a major contribution to CFC in a season where we put ourselves firmly in contention until the Cororonavirus struck. The trophy presentations it seems will have to wait till next season (whenever that is) but we did catch up with Craig and he sent the undernoted message.

Message from Craig Barr :

"It’s great to be voted for both these awards. I wish it would have been off the back of a fully completed successful season i.e. play offs, but I’m still greatly appreciative of this recognition and have really enjoyed this season and my time at the club so far. I feel we had a strong base defensively this season for the majority, and I’m sure the likes of Toddy and Hammy would have been within a shout of both these awards. Toddy has been superb and grew in confidence week by week and I‘ve enjoyed playing alongside him. Likewise, Hammy hardly put a foot wrong throughout, and for such a young lad is a testament to his attitude. He shows great attributes to have long and successful career.

It’s always good to be recognised by fellow players and/or managers. As you get older, priorities can start to change and you sometimes question yourself about time away from family and long bus journeys taking up your whole weekend. Winning games collectively as a team, having a good management team, and any individual awards that follow definitely make it a worthwhile sacrifice and I look forward to it continuing. I don’t plan on stopping anytime soon!

Thanks to the management and players for making me fit in in my first season with the club and thanks massively for both these awards. Hope everyone is safe and well.

Mango"
