MATCH PREVIEW - UNIVERSITY OF STIRLING (H)

Posted January 14, 2023

We finally get our 2023 fixtures underway when we host University of Stirling with a 3pm kick off.

The students beat us 1-0 in the first meeting of the sides back in September at Forthbank Stadium with Ben MacIver-Redwood getting the vital goal midway through the first half.

While we have still to kick a ball this year, after last Saturday’s game was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch at Dalbeattie, Chris Geddes side have played two games beating Gretna 2008 2-0 at home last Saturday and Edinburgh University at East Peffermill 4-0 on Wednesday night.

A relatively slow start to the season saw our visitors lose three league games in August against OG Broomhill, Rangers B and Celtic B but since then they have lost only a further two games to Civil Service Strollers and Bo’ness.

Their fine run has propelled them into the pack of sides fighting it out at the top of the table and following Wednesday nights win they are one of four sides on 48 points, just one behind leaders The Spartans although they have played a game less than the Ainslie Park side.

They have also had a good Scottish Cup run beating Lothian Thistle Hutchison Vale, Dunbar United and Albion Rovers. Next Saturday they play Dundee United in the biggest game in their history. In the South Challenge Cup, they have beaten our near neighbours Crossgates Primrose and Darvel.

Our last outing was a fortnight ago when we drew 0-0 with Tranent Juniors at Central Park. Andy Black was sent off in that game and will be suspended for today’s game, while the match saw Leyton Bisland’s last outing for us before returning to Dundee United who yesterday sent him out on loan again to League 1 Peterhead.
