Gala Evening For Cowden

Posted May 23, 2023

Central Park was pretty busy yesterday evening as agreements were finalised in respect of deals for 2023/24 that see local lads Ciaren Chalmers (left) and Gregor Jordan (right) joining us from Gala Fairydean Rovers. Both have spent 2 seasons with the Galashiels club. Ciaren (25) previously played for Kelty Hearts, Berwick Rangers and Crossgates Primrose. He can play both in defence and in a midfield role but also was Gala's top scorer last season. Defender Gregor (21) meantime came through the ranks of the Fife Elite Football Academy before enjoying spells with Dunfermline Athletic and Brechin City.

Blue Brazil boss Calum Elliot said, "I’m delighted Ciaren has decided to join us after two very successful years at Gala both individually and collectively. He’s good in both boxes, His numbers are very strong and it’s common knowledge we did not score enough goals last season so we’re hoping he can build on that record with us. Being a local boy as well he realises how big a club Cowdenbeath is and its significance to the community, I’m positive he’ll have a big impact in the season ahead.

Gregor equally has a lot of strong attributes which I’m looking forward to developing to help support him becoming the player he wants to be. He’s played a lot of games in the last two years under a really good management team at Gala. He’s someone I have watched on a number of occasions in the past year and with a really strong pre season he will be a real asset to Cowdenbeath in the forthcoming campaign."

Cowdenbeath FC's Football Operations Co-ordinator Colin Nelson added, "Like the manager I'm delighted to get Ciaren and Gregor into the club. Both had excellent seasons at Gala. We were impressed with both against us last season and thereafter monitored their situations closely. Being local lads is also a positive for the club. Both players have a real desire to be part of things here so it's great to get them on board."

Gregor and Ciaren were also able to provide us with their initial thoughts after agreeing terms. Gregor advised, "I'm delighted to sign for a local club and truly excited for the challenge ahead for a big season for Cowdenbeath. I would like to thank Gala for helping to get the deal sorted and now just look forward to getting started'. Ciaren commented, 'Really happy to have signed with Cowdenbeath; a big club with a lot of history. It’s going to be a tough season as it’s a really competitive league but I’m excited to get started and start picking up wins and see what happens come May next year."
