Moving Up A Gear

Posted June 1, 2025

As we continue to strengthen the squad for the upcoming season, we are delighted to announce the signing of goalkeeper Dion Gear.

Dion joins us from Kirkcaldy & Dysart, where he has been a key player since moving from Greig Park Rangers AFC in the summer of 2021.

He enjoyed a solid campaign last season, helping the club secure a 7th place finish in the East of Scotland First Division. Notably, he also played a crucial role in their run to the final of the East of Scotland League Cup, where they narrowly lost to Musselburgh Athletic.

Welcome to Central Park, Dion.

Upon signing, Dion commented "Buzzing to have signed with Cowden and to be given the chance to prove myself. It was a bit of a no brainier when contact was first made, had a few options but wanted to try test myself at the highest level possible. I’m grateful for the opportunity and hopefully we have a successful time as a club."

Football Operations Co-ordinator Colin Nelson said "Great to report we have signed Dion. He deserves this opportunity after having a really successful period at Kirkcaldy. He has good attributes that we are looking for in our goalkeepers and one thing I liked about Dion is his desire to better himself and push himself. He wants to be here and he wants to do well - that attitude stuck with me from the first conversation. He's turned down more lucrative offers and I'm delighted he's signed on here."

Manager Paul McLean added "A goalkeeper who had a really strong season with Kirkcaldy and one we’ve had watched several times so I'm delighted has chosen to make the step up to join us. He’s a confident lad who is very comfortable with the ball at his feet and commands his area well. I’m sure he will be a good addition to the squad."
