MATCH PREVIEW - BO'NESS UNITED (H)

Posted July 29, 2025

After a disappointing opening day defeat down at Berwick on Saturday, we make a quick return to Park's Motor Group Lowland League action tonight when we host Bo’ness United in our opening home game with a 7.45pm kick off.

While we were going down 2-0 at Shielfield Park, United opened their league campaign with a United were beating Civi Service Strollers 3-0 at Newtown Park with Tom Grant hitting a hat trick.

The weekend results see Bo’ness in second place and ourselves in 14th place.

THE OPPOSITION

In last season’s meetings the Bo’ness ran out 2-1 winners at Central Park last October with goals from Ryan Porteous and Louis Kennedy in the second half cancelled out Matty McDonald’s half time opener. The return game at Newtown Park in April saw us win 5-0 with all the goals from Jake Sutherland with a hat trick, Olly Whyte and Daryl Healy coming in the second half.

Last season saw United finish in 12th place in the Lowland League with 39 points from their 34 games their lowest position since being promoted in 2019.

In the pre-season they opened with a 6-1 home defeat from Stirling Albion with Kieran Mitchell getting their goal. A 3-3 draw with Scoutable United, also at Newtown Park, then followed with Ryan Schiavone, Tom Grant and Mark McLuskie getting the goals. Mitchell and Schiavone were then again on target when they went down 4-2 Dundonald Bluebell at Moorside Park in a testimonial game for Aiden Hendry.

They then took part in the James McGrory Cup at James McGrory Park home of St Rochs. In the opening game they were drawn against Drumchapel United and goals from Ryan Stevenson and Mitchell saw a 2-2 draw with United winning the penalty shootout 6-5 with Ben Fry saving two spot kicks. In the Final they met Pollok whom they beat 3-1 thanks to first half goals from Connor Scullion, Kyle Johnston and Schiavone.

Their final warm up game then saw a 3-0 win over Scottish Junior Cup winners Johnstone Burgh at Keannie Park with goals from Mitchell with two penalties and Kyle Johnston.
