MATCH PREVIEW - BROXBURN ATHLETIC (H)

Posted August 16, 2025

After our draw at Clydebank last Saturday, we return to Central Park to face Broxburn Athletic in the Park’s Motor Group Lowland League with a 3pm kick off.

Last week’s draw at Holm Park saw us move up to sixth place in the table while after a slow start to the season, our visitors sit in 16th place.

We go into the match looking to pick up our first points against the West Lothian side having lost 4-0 and 3-1 in last season’s games.

In a depleted progamme of games due to the South Challenge Cup there are only three other league games this afternoon. Linlithgow Rose and Celtic B two teams just above us meet at Prestonfield, East Stirlingshire and University meanwhile will be looking to get their first win of the season from their home games against Cumbernauld Colts and Gretna 2008 respectively.

THE OPPOSITION

Last season Broxburn made a blistering start to life in the Lowland League winning five of their opening six games. However, a good first half of the season didn’t follow in 2025 with only four wins, two draws and seven defeats.

Despite refreshing their squad in the close season that inconsistent form has followed them into the new season with one win and three defeats in their opening four games.

The season opener saw them go down 3-2 to Celtic B at the Excelsior Stadium where Jon Robertson gave them the lead. A brace from Rhys Dargie and an own goal from Andy Rodden turned the game before Robbie Hamilton pulled back a goal. This was followed up by a 2-0 home defeat from Caledonian Braves with second half goals from Lennon Walker and Ross McNeil.

Their only win so far then came in another home game when they beat Berwick Rangers 5-0. Jamie Pyper put through his own net to open the scoring with Shaun Brown and Errol Douglas hitting braces.

The Brox must have thought they had turned a tide but went down by a similar score in the Union Canal derby against Linlithgow Rose last Saturday at Prestonfield. Connor Greene gave Rose the lead with Lucas Stenhouse (2), Dylan Paterson and Alan Sneddon also on target.
