Transfer window update

PostedJanuary 4, 2011

The January transfer window opened at the weekend and Jimmy Nicholl has been busy drawing up a list of potential targets as he looks to freshen up his squad over the coming month.

"I am reasonably happy with the squad and they have stepped up exceptionally well to the challenge of 1st Division football", commented Nicholl.

"However, our recent run has highlighted a couple of areas of the team that require strengthening while a wee bit more experience would be helpful. We have a challenging period coming up with 21 league games over the next 4 season defining months so we are going to need competition throughout the team. I am hoping to bring in 2 or 3 players with the required qualities while there may be some movement the other way to balance the books."

A deal for an East Premier league junior striker has already been agreed, with the signing to be announced once the paperwork is complete, while talks are ongoing with a number of other targets. Meanwhile, Mark Smith has been released. The 19 year-old joined the club from Motherwell in the summer but failed to establish himself in the first team and moves on to pastures new.
