Cowdenbeath claimed arguably their best result of the season as the injury-hit team won all three precious points and defended resolutely to secure the first clean sheet of the season.
Jimmy Nicholl had to make do without 5 key players - including 4 defenders - but his makeshift team, with youngsters Jon Robertson (21), Ritchie Vauls (20) and Kyle Miller (18) coming back into the side to great effect, performed heroically against in-form and full-time opponents and deservedly handed Thistle their first league home defeat since September. The team defended excellently throughout and were a constant threat on the break with both Mark Ramsay and Greg Stewart outstanding yet again.
Cowden broke the deadlock 5 minutes after the interval when Stewart latched onto a long ball from David Hay and, after out-muscling John Robertson, cooly slotted home from 18 yards to score his fifth goal in as many games.
The result moves Cowden out of the bottom two and 9 points clear of Stirling Albion with a home game against Greenock Morton coming up on Tuesday night.
