Match Preview: Cowdenbeath v Brechin City

Posted May 13, 2011

It is back to Central Park on Saturday (2pm kick off) to see whether Cowdenbeath or Brechin City will book a place in the play-off final after the thrilling 1st leg midweek 2-2 draw.

Both sides will go into the game full of confidence after Wednesday nights stalemate left this game evenly balanced and with it all to play for. Assistant manager Colin Cameron should come back into contention but Ludo Roy is very doubtful due to a groin strain with regular no 1 David Hay ready to reclaim the keepers jersey.

The result on Wednesday now means that we have gone 6 games unbeaten against City (our 3-1 defeat at Glebe Park at the start of last season being our last loss) and since then we've won 2 and drawn 3 of the games scoring 12 and conceding 5.  To secure our place in the play-off final will need us to win a match on this day for the first time in decades - our last match on this date ended in a 2-0 home defeat to Queen of the South to leave us sitting bottom of the old division 2 with just 8 points in 1994.

Our recent home form has seen us pick up 7 points out of a possible 15 with wins over Ross County and Stirling Albion helping to slowly turn Central Park into a tough place for sides to come to pick up points.  City's recent away form see's 1 win and 3 draws from the last 5 games indicating that both sides will be heading into the game confident of at least not losing the match.  With Rory McAllister leading the Brechin line the Cowden defence is going to have to be on top form - 31 goals conceded in 18 home league games tells its own story while City have managed to score 28 on the road and actually have the 2nd best away record "27 out of 54 points) in the 2nd Division behind run away leaders Livingston.

Match of the day fact of the week:- This match will be Brechin's 48th competitive match of the season. This a mammoth number for a part-time side with full time clubs such as Ross County (who made a cup final!) only playing 47.  This will be our 41st game of the season and hopefully not the last!

Don't forget that the pre-match entertaintment kicks off at 12 noon!
