Posted May 28, 2011

Cowdenbeath Football Club is pleased to announce a partnership with newly established local football coaching provider GOALzone. This exciting initiative will see the Club significantly increase its presence in Cowdenbeath and the surrounding area with the introduction of the Blue Brazil Community and Schools Football Programme.

The programme will be run by the professionally qualified coaching staff at GOALzone, who have vast experience and are extensively qualified in their field of work, in partnership with Cowdenbeath Football Club and will provide the local community with the opportunity to participate in a range of sporting activities.

The new initiative is already underway and GOALzone staff were on hand to help ensure the success of the recent Schools Penalty Shoot-Out contest that was held before the last game of the season against Brechin City. Activities like this and many other exciting new projects will be becoming a more regular occurrence through the new set-up as the Club increasingly strengthens its ties with the local community.

Next up is an event on Friday 3rd June when Central Park will play host to a 'Fun 4's Football Festival'. Primary 6 and 7 pupils from a number of local schools will participate in what is sure to be a great afternoon of football for all involved.

Plans are also in place for sessions to be run for pupils over the summer school holidays and come the start of next term classes will be running for nursery aged children as well.

Max Nicholson, of GOALzone, explained the aims of the project: “Through our affiliation, the football club will be able to reach out and play an active role in the local schools and community.

"We will be creating the opportunity for hundreds of children and their families to not only get involved in football in general, but also, to do so through the medium of Cowdenbeath Football Club. This will also help to give the Club a real presence in the community."

The partnership with GOALzone is part of the Club's strategy to transform the football club into a major community asset that the people of Cowdenbeath can once again be proud of. The new Blue Brazil Community and Schools Football Programme will assist the local community achieve many social and economic goals including increased participation in sport, increased learning and life opportunities, and reducing crime.

"One of our key objectives is to re-connect Cowdenbeath Football Club with the local community after decades of neglect", commented Cowdenbeath FC Chairman, Donald Findlay QC.

"Having a senior football club located in the town is a great benefit to the people of Cowdenbeath but we must do more than merely exist. The Club can, and must, be more active in the local community and a play a positive role in improving opportunities for local people and the business community.

"We made good progress last season thanks to the hard work of Alex Haddow and his team but our partnership with GOALzone will allow the Club, Alex and the Trust to to take this to a new level.

"We are delighted to welcome Max Nicholson and Kevin Carfray on board and look forward to bringing to fruition the potential that our new partnership with GOALzone has to offer the local community."
