A sizzling 5-star show from Cowden secured a first ever win at the Excelsior Stadium and top spot in the Irn-Bru 2nd Division.
Airdrie opened the scoring after only 6 minutes through Ryan Donnelly but it was pretty much one-way traffic from then on as Colin Cameron's side put on a total football masterclass.
Jon Robertson (37) levelled the game from a Scott Linton corner and the latter put Cowden ahead on the break with a fine finish aftter superb set-up play from the impressive Dean Brett.
The 2nd half display left the home side chasing shadows as three further goals completed the rout. Lewis Coult (50) showed great compure for the 3rd before putting Scott Linton (67) through on goal and the midfielder gave Paul McKane no chance for number 4.
Cowden missed several more chances before Jordan Morton beat the offiside trap and the keeper to complete the scoring with 12 minutes remaining.
