Duo go out on loan

Posted August 26, 2011

Youngsters John Ferguson and Steven Bennett have been farmed out to Vale of Leithen and Boness United respectively.

Ferguson (19) has joined East of Scotland Premier League side Vale of Leithen until January.

Manger Colin Cameron said: "Due to the formation we are playing it has been difficult for John to get game time with Lewis Coult and Greg Stewart ahead of him currently for the lone striker role."

"At his age he needs to be playing football on a regular basis and I know their manager, Robbie Horn, from Hearts so hopefully the move will be mutually beneficial. There is no doubt that John has the talent but he needs to work harder on his application."

6'5 tall cental defender Steven Bennett (19) has signed for his hometown team, who play the East Junior Super League, until the end of the season.

"We have strong competition for places at centre half and I don't think under 19 football will be challenging enough for Steven at this stage of his development", commented Cameron.

"The move will benefit Steven and will give him the opportunity to develop and take his game up to the next level. If he continues to improve his game he has a real chance to come back and establish himself in the 1st team."

Both playes can be recalled at any time if required and will be available for reserve fixtures.

The Manager is also hopeful of adding to his squad before the window shuts next week but can also add loan signings or free agents outwith the window: "I'm looking to bring in one more if the right player is available", said Cameron.

"I'm not interested in bringing in a squad player so will need to be someone who can enhance and strengthen what we already have.

"We have strong competition pretty much throughout the team and we are playing well just now so players will have to be patient to get the jerseys from those currently in possession.

"However, it will be a long season and players will have opportunities to stake their claims and will need to take their chance when it comes. Greg Stewart is a good example. He dropped out due to injury and big Lewis Coult has come in and claimed the jersey with some impressive displays. Greg will need to be patient but has looked sharp and needs to be ready when opportunity knocks.

"We also have a great batch of promising kids coming through. Age is no barrier as far as I'm and this club is concerned and will ge the opportunity if they are good enough."
