The Blue Brazil's unbeaten start to the season came crahsing to an end at Ochilview as Stenhousemuir ran out deserved 3-1 winners.
Cowden - minus the injured Colin Cameron and Dean Brett from the 5-1 win over Airdire United - had the slight upper hand in a closely fought goalless first half.
However, it was a different story after the interval as Stenhousemuir's experienced midfield duo of Paul McHale and Eric Paton began to take control of the game.
Andy Rodgers (56) opened the scoring for the home side from close range before a fantastic strike from Kenny Adamson gave Cowden a lifeline 13 minutes later.
It was short lived though as a 20-yard shot from former Central Parker Paul McHale (72) put Stenny back in front and Brown Ferguson made the game safe 5 minutes later after good set-up play from Stevie Murray.
Cameron and his side now have a free weekend coming up due to the International card before picking up again in a fortnight against East Fife at Central Park.
