Clyde 2  Cowdenbeath FC 1

Date: 31st July 2010 Kick off: 4:00pm
Competition: Co-op Insurance Cup Referee: Brian Colvin
Venue: Fountain of Youth Stadium Attendance: 667
Man of the Match: David Hay

The Blue Brazil crashed out of the Co-operative Insurance Cup at the first attempt after two second half goals from Marc McCusker won the tie for Clyde.

The first half was a fairly even affair although Cowden had David Hay to thank for keeping the scoreline blank with two top class saves to deny John Sweeney and Bryan Dingwall.

Jimmy Nicholl's side started the second period brighly and only a goal line intervention prevented Thomas O'Brien opening the scoring on his debut.

The home side broke the deadlock after 57 minutes thanks to a fantastic strike from McCusker and the big striker added an equally impressive second 10 minutes later.

The introduction of youngsters Greg Stewart (21) and Dean Brett (17) changed the game in favour of the Blue Brazil and Mark Ramsay eventually reduced the defict with 12 minutes remaining after heading past Hutchision from close range.

Stewart and O'Brien came close to taking the tie into extra time but Clyde held on to progress into the second round.

On the plus side, 18-year old Thomas O'Brien impressed on his debut along with subs Greg Stewart and Dean Brett.

Jimmy Nicholl spoke to the Blue Brazil Online after the game:

"We went into the game on a high after the win at Stark's Park but we did not match the level of performance.

"We made a sloppy start to the game and had David Hay to thank for keeping the score level. We had a good spell 10 or 15 minutes before half time but found ourselves two goals down early in the second half due to two avoidable goals.

"The lads finished the game strongly and came close taking the game to extra-time but over the piece Clyde deserved the win."
