Competition: Irn-Bru 1st Division Referee: Steven McLean

Man of the Match: David Hay

Goals from Brian Fairbairn and John Armstrong and some resolute defending saw us come from a goal down to record our first league victory over the Jags since December 1931.

There were two changes to the starting line up which had lost to Queen of the South with Mark Baxter and Fairbairn coming back into the side with Dean Brett and Lee Sibanda dropping to the bench.

Thistle opened the scoring after 15 minutes when a pass from Cairney spilt the Cowden defence to set up Kris Doolan who fired a low shot past Hay from 14 yards.

The Glasgow side’s joy was short lived however and within 60 seconds we were back on level terms. Linton sent over a fine cross which caused problems for keeper Halliwell and his defenders and Brian Fairbairn had time to steady himself before shooting high into the net from ten yards.

Hay pulled off two point blank saves from former Central Parker Buchanan and Doolan before finger-tipping away a fierce shot from Boyle.

At the other end both Dempster and Armstrong came close but as the first half came to a close both teams were level.

Seven minutes after the restart we got what proved to be the winning goal. A 25 yard free kick from Fairbairn was tipped over the bar by Halliwell and the resultant corner was swung into the visitor’s box by Linton.

The keeper and his defenders once again failed to clear the danger and the ball fell to John Armstrong who slammed the ball into the roof of the net from eight yards.

Thistle hit bag strongly and Hay had to bring off a brilliant save to deflect a net bound effort with his leg.

Rowson then shot wide while Paton saw a 22 yard effort crash off the inside of the post.
