Greenock Morton 1  Cowdenbeath FC 2

Date: 11th September 2010 Kick off: 4:00pm
Competition: Irn-Bru 1st Division Referee: Brian Colvin
Venue: Cappielow Attendance: 1839
Man of the Match:

The trip down the ‘tail of the bank’ proved to be a fruitful one for Jimmy Nicholl and his side as two second half goals from Mark Ramsay and John Dempster gave us a second successive win to move into fourth place.

There was one change to starting line up from the Partick game with Thomas O’Brien replacing Brian Fairbairn, while on the bench Joe Mbu made a welcome return to the squad after coming through a midweek closed door game with East Fife.

The first 45 minutes provided few clear cut chances for either side with Linton coming closest to breaking the deadlock when he headed a McKenzie cross wide after 17 minutes.

The second period opened with Mbu taking over in defence for the injured Armstrong and the deadlock was soon broken in spectacular style in the 52nd  minute.

Baxter, making his 150th appearance for the side, floated the ball into the Morton box and Mark Ramsay hooked a superb volley past Stewart from 18 yards which was even sportingly applauded by the home support.

Six minutes later however the home side drew level when sub Jenkins sent over a cross which Stuart Kean headed home despite the best efforts of Hay.

We were not to be denied the three points however and with 18 minutes to go John Dempster latched onto a low cross from McKenzie to shoot home his second goal of the campaign.
