Partick Thistle 0Cowdenbeath FC 1

Date: 19th March 2011 Kick off: 3:00pm
Competition: Irn-Bru 1st Division Referee: Steven McLean
Venue: Firhill Attendance: 1754
Man of the Match:

Greg Stewart scored for the fifth successive game to give us our first league win at Firhill since April 1930!

It was a depleted Cowden squad who made the trip to Firhill with John Armstrong, Joe Mbu and Colin Cameron who all limped off at Starks Park unfit to take part.

Stevie Crawford dropped to the bench while Richard Vauls, Kyle Miller, Lee Makel and Jon Robertson returned to the side.

The home side were the first to threaten a goal when a through ball from Paton was collected by Grehan but he couldn’t pick out the waiting Rowson with his cross. Soon after a Boyle shot was blocked at the expense of a corner before Doolan hooked a shot over the bar.

At the other end Fox pulled off a good save to deny Ramsay and just short of the half hour the custodian turned an effort from Stewart over the bar.

Moments later a clearance from Vauls fell into the path of McGowan who fired in a shot which Hay did well to save.

The second half opened with Thistle appealing for a penalty after Paton went down in the box but play was waved on by referee McLean.

The deadlock was broken in the 50th minute when a long clearance by Hay caught out the home defence and fell to Greg Stewart who knocked the ball past Fox and into the bottom corner of the net.

As the game wound down the home front line rarely threatened Hay and with 13 minutes to go we almost doubled our advantage by Millers effort was blocked by the keeper.
