2  Cowdenbeath U'20s 2

Date: 23rd January 2011 Kick off: 1:00pm
Competition: Youth League Referee:
Venue: Links Park

For the first minutes of this game it looked like Cowdenbeath were going to over run their hosts at Links Park, Montrose with only some last ditch tackles and very good goalkeeping keeping the scores level. A fine piece of play and reverse pass from Kyle Miller found Jordyn Gill whose delivery was met perfectly by Nicholson whose header back  across  GK Smith saw the keeper make an incredible one handed save.

A slack pass inside the Brechin half saw a long hopeful ball find the only Brechin player in the Cowden area who rounded Wilson in Goals to put Brechin ahead. This shocked  the young Cowden and were put off their game and an almost identical situation saw Brechin take a 2 - 0 lead 3 minutes later.

This gave Brechin confidence and saw them start to move the ball around now and it wasn't until late in the half that Cowdenbeath started to come back into the game and could have reduced the deficit before the end of the half with O'Brien, McNeill and Miller coming close with their efforts.

 HT 2 -0.

Cowden came out  the traps flying in the second half and reduced the deficit inside the first minute. Some very good interplay between Nicholson and Miller saw the midfielder find Jordyn Gill between two defenders and he calmly lobbed the GK from 12 yards.

4 minutes into the second half it was 2 -2. A fine pass from Milne in midfield found Nicholson at the left hand corner of the Brechin box and he turned his man and his pass across the box found Miller free in lots. of space to pick his spot and slot the ball into the net.

The youngsters now looked more like themselves and it was their turn to show what they can do and they started moving the ball with a fine display of passing and movement, always looking dangerous and again ,but for some solid tackles and fine goalkeeping, Cowden could have been and should have been out of site. In fact, had the referee  given a penalty for a two player challenge on Miller inside the area all three points would have been heading back to Fife.

FT 2-2
