The last of our midweek games saw us stretch our unbeaten run to seven games and move four points clear of Arbroath.
The Sons themselves had been on an impressive ten game unbeaten run which had pushed them onto the fringes of the championship race but goals in each half from Joe Mbu and Marc McKenzie ensured our second win of the campaign at the Dumbarton Football Stadium.
In an atrocious night weather wise with a strong wind and driving rain we seemed to cope better with the conditions.
We were quick off the starting blocks and forced three corners in the opening minutes with the third one leading to Mbu’s opener after three minutes when he out jumped the home defence to bury an unstoppable header past Grindlay.
With 12 minutes gone Coult had a goal bound shot charged down by Lithgow as we looked to extend our lead.
Cowden remained on top in what was a tough midfield battle but four minutes from the break the Sons almost grabbed an equaliser when a free kick from Gilhaney curled beyond everyone but came off the post.
At the other end McKenzie broke through the home defence but the keeper bravely dived at his feet to deny us a second goal.
The second half opened with McKenzie firing just past the post, while Borris had a shot from an acute angled held by Flynn.
Mbu then launched a shot into the Dumbarton box with Grindlay injuring himself while diving to deny McKenzie once more.
The little midfielder however eventually got his goal after 73 minutes when Armstrong cut the ball back for him to fire home an unstoppable low drive.
