A fourth successive draw saw our unbeaten run continue against a Morton side who started the afternoon as league leaders.
There were four changes to the side which had drawn in mid-week at Airdrie with Colin Cameron recalling himself to the starting line up while new signings Liam Caddis, Kane Hemmings and Sam Stanton all went straight into the starting line- up for their debuts.
In the opening minute Stanton sent over an inviting cross but Brett just failed to connect.
The on loan Hi-bees continued a lively opening and another cross saw a Hemmings cross held by keeper Gaston.
Brett them burst through the visitors defence and sent the ball across the face of the goal with Reid clearing the danger.
On the 15 minute mark Caddis set up fellow loanee Hemmings who saw his shot saved by the keeper.
Soon after Brett set up the Rangers youngster once more but his shot was parried by Gaston at the expense of a corner.
At the other end a corner from Tidser was headed by O’Brien but Armstrong was on hand to clear.
Midway through the half Caddis just shot wide of the Morton goal while at the other end an O’Brien effort was held by Flynn.
On the half hour O’Brien sent an inviting ball across the face of our goal but the danger was cleared while soon after Caddis was once again denied by Gaston.
Minutes later O’Brien was brought down on the edge of the box by Brett but the resultant free kick by McDonald deflected off the Cowden wall for a corner.
We finally made a breakthrough eight minutes from the interval when Cameron sent a defence splitting diagonal pass to Liam Caddis who coolly fired a left footed shot past Gaston into the corner of the net from 16 yards.
The visitors were out early for the second half and went all out looking for an equaliser with Flynn tipping a Wallace cross over the bar.
The resultant corner was headed to the back post by Rutkiewicz into the path of Peter McDonald who fired an unstoppable angled volley past Flynn.
On the hour Weaterson fired in a long range shot which was held by Flynn and soon after the veteran was fouled by Mbu but Tidser’s free kick was once again blocked by the Cowden wall.
A shot from Hemmings was then easily held by Gaston while Caddis sent a shot just over the bar after good work by Brett.
Substitute Wilkie sent over a cross for Weatherson who shot over while Flynn done well to block a Rutkiewicz header.
As the game wound down Coult, who had came onto boost the attack, headed wide from a Caddis cross while Caddis himself saw a long range effort held by the diving Gaston.
Hawke , who had scored a late winner at Cappielow in November, then almost repeated the act in the dying minutes but his header was held by Flynn while Stanton set up Hemmings who was denied by Gaston once more.
