Following our draw at Dumfries the previous week we recorded our biggest Championship win of the season over bottom of the table Morton.

It was an unchanged line up which took the field and we grabbed the lead in the first minute.

Stevenson played a free-kick forward and Armstrong knocked the ball down to Jordan Morton and his raking 18 yard left foot volley flew past Caraux. Then two minutes later Cowden attacked through the middle of the Ton defence and Kane Hemmings ran clear to fire past Caraux from 15 yards, with the visiting rearguard posted missing.

Two minutes later Stewart beat two defenders and sent an inviting ball across the Morton six yard box but there was no one lying handy to knock it into the net.
Morton looked dangerous at times and midway through the opening 45 minutes  Fitzpatrick had a great chance but his 16 yarder was straight at Flynn, then minutes later at the other end, Stevenson broke clear and his 25 yarder was just inches wide. Just 12 minutes from the break Morton’s 30 yard free-kick produced a brilliant save from Caraux and five minutes later Cowden grabbed a third.
Stevenson’s corner was headed in by Stewart, and after Caraux blocked the ball on the line, Kane Hemmings blasted it home.

But on the interval whistle Morton got back into the game when Novo found Dougie Imrie and his low 12 yard shot gave Flynn no chance.
Morton had an opportunity five minutes into the second period when O’Brien was caught flat footed and  Habai’s shot hit Armstrong and flew over the bar.
But seconds later, at the other end, Stewart’s right foot 12 yarder was finger-tipped over by Caraux, then Hemmings was sent clear by Stevenson and his left foot 14 yarder went inches wide. In 63 minutes Stewart and Hemmings combined and the former Rangers man’s shot went close.

As the game was going into the last quarter Morton had a couple of good moves which were stopped by solid work from Flynn but Cowden got the key fourth goal 18 minutes from time.
Jordan Morton’s brilliant run down the right set up Greg Stewart  10 yards out, who made no mistake after Hemmings’ helped the ball on.

Then with 80 minutes on the clock number five arrived after Caraux had made two fine stops.
Kane Hemmings broke through the Ton defence after being set up by Morton and raced in on the keeper before firing the ball past the last line.
And Caraux had to be on the alert in the closing minutes to keep his side from suffering further damage, with Andy Russell and Marc McKenzie prominent.
