Competition: Irn-Bru 1st Division Referee: George Salmond

Our home unbeaten run in the Championship stretching back to mid- January came to an abrupt end last Saturday. Jimmy Nicholl made two changes to the starting line -up which had lost at Livingston with Kyle Miller and Chris Kane dropping to the bench with Craig Sutherland and Darren Brownlie coming in. Alloa forced a corner in the third minute and from McCord’s kick Gordon headed over from 12 yards. McCord then picked out Buchanan who burst through on goal but Armstrong got across to clear the danger. The former Central Parker was then set up by a diagonal pass by Simmons but his cut back was cleared for a corner. Cowden had to make a change in six minutes when Sutherland limped off to be replaced by Johnston but the youngster himself had to be replaced 11 minutes later by Jurisic. Cawley then burst through on goal to shoot from range and Flynn could only parry the shot into Buchanan's path but recovered well to gather the ball at his feet. Simmons went close to opening the scoring with a thunderous drive on 19 minutes that flashed just wide. Simmons then turned provider for Docherty to shoot from range minutes later Flynn was just able to deny the defender and gather. Gordon headed just wide for the Wasps as they continued their good start but on the half hour Jurisic fed Milne and his pass gave Brett a clear shot and his effort went inches wide. Alloa grabbed the lead seven minutes from the beak when Kevin CAWLEY’s 30 yard shot flew into the bottom corner of the net, the ball taking a big deflection off Brownlie. Then they stretched their lead three minutes after the break. Docherty’s cross flew across the face of the Cowden goalmouth and Greg SPENCE had the easiest of opportunities to head home from close in. We responded almost immediately when Adamson’s cross found Armstrong but his header crashed off the bar. But with 54 minutes gone the visitors went further ahead when Docherty once again sent in a cross for Spence whose fierce shot was brilliantly blocked by Flynn but Liam BUCHANAN followed up to score on his old stamping ground. Cowden came close to a goal on the hour mark when Higgins got an effort on target but Gordon cleared off the line.
