After our penalty shoot- out defeat at Falkirkin the League Cup the previous Tuesday the first derby saw a disappointing outcome. The early stages saw little real creativity from either side but on the half hour a long ball saw home skipper for the day Nat Wedderburn outpaced by Mark STEWART who fired an un-saveable shot past Flynn. The big defender had to limp off with O'Brien going on and Kane dropping back to centre-back. The second-half saw Cowden do a bit better for a spell and O'Brien tested Raith keeper Laidlaw with a long range effort and another sub, Johnston, also went close. But in 71 minutes came the second Rovers goal when Stewart sent over a cross from the right and the unmarked Lewis VAUGHAN headed home and then seven minutes later a 35 yard wind assisted free-kick from Ryan CONROY gave Rovers a three goal advantage. In time added on Lewis MILNE fired in Cowden's goal off the underside of the bar but it was too little too late. TEAM: Thomas Flynn, Iain Campbell, Nat Wedderburn (Thomas O’Brien 31), Jon Robertson, Lewis Milne, Sean Higgins, Chris Kane, Dean Brett, Kudus Oyenuga, Darren Brownlie & Kyle Miller (Craig Johnston 60). Subs not used – Danijel Jurisic, Aron Lynas, Jack Wright, Liam Callaghan & Robbie Thomson. Goal: Milne (90+3). RAITH ROVERS: Ross Laidlaw, Jason Thomson, Ross Perry (Laurie Ellis 8), Paul Watson, Liam Fox (Grant Anderson 87), Kevin Moon, Mark Stewart, Martin Scott, Ryan Conroy, Lewis Vaughan (Calum Elliot 81) & Rory McKeown. Subs not used – Ross Callachan, Ross Matthews & David Bates. Goals: Stewart (29), Vaughan (71), Conroy (77).
