After our penalty shoot- out defeat at Falkirkin the League Cup the previous Tuesday the first derby saw a disappointing outcome.
The early stages saw little real creativity from either side but on the half hour a long ball saw home skipper for the day Nat Wedderburn outpaced by Mark STEWART who fired an un-saveable shot past Flynn.
The big defender had to limp off with O'Brien going on and Kane dropping back to centre-back.
The second-half saw Cowden do a bit better for a spell and O'Brien tested Raith keeper Laidlaw with a long range effort and another sub, Johnston, also went close.
But in 71 minutes came the second Rovers goal when Stewart sent over a cross from the right and the unmarked Lewis VAUGHAN headed home and then seven minutes later a 35 yard wind assisted free-kick from Ryan CONROY gave Rovers a three goal advantage.
In time added on Lewis MILNE fired in Cowden's goal off the underside of the bar but it was too little too late.
