Date: 3rd October 2015 Kick off: 3:00pm
Competition: Ladbrokes League 1 Referee: Mr Alan Newlands
Venue: Somerset Park Attendance: 1171

The first quarter of the Ladbrokes League 1 campaign closed with another disappointing away result as we fell to the foot of the table following Brechin’s 2-2 draw at Stenhousemuir.

Dean Brett was suspended for the game following his red card at Glebe Park and was replaced by Brad Donaldson while John Armstrong, Andy Murdoch and Liam Callaghan also came into the starting line up with Pat Scullion, Sam Orritt and Robbie Buchanan dropping out.

The previous meeting between the sides back in May 2014 had seen Greg Stewart score our fastest ever goal in ten seconds and Ayr’s Jordan Preston almost repeated the feat giving his side the lead in 29 seconds!

Following a throw in Forrest picked the ball up on the left wing and delivered the ball into the Cowden box and Jordan PRESTON was on hand to volley home from close range.

A minute later the on loan Blackburn Rovers youngster almost added a second but his shot was saved by Sneddon.
With ten minutes gone Smith got on the end of a Murdoch corner but the danger was cleared by McLaughlan.

In 18 minutes we found ourselves two down when Devlin cut the ball back to former Cowden man Moore who laid the ball back to Alan FORREST who slotted home from 12 yards despite Donaldson’s efforts to clear the ball off the line.

Adamson then combined with Murdoch to set up Smith but his shot was held by Fleming then Donaldson headed just over following a Murdoch corner, and as the first half came to a close Sneddon held a Moore shot.

The second half opened with Scullion on for Armstrong and within three minutes of the restart Ayr went further ahead when Scullion cleared a Preston cross and from the resultant corner by Gilmour Gerry McLAUGHLAN headed home.

Two minutes later a Gilmour shot came off the post and in 55 minutes Moore saw a shot cleared off the line by Donaldson.
The fourth goal eventually came in 57 minutes when Forrest got to the bye line and crossed the ball to the back post with Trouten laying the ball to Brian GILMOUR who had the simple task of rolling the ball into the net.

Home keeper Fleming then denied Donaldson while Spence came close with two close range efforts.
A miserable afternoon was then completed with 71 minutes gone when Boyle played the ball to Caldwell who raced into the box to set up Craig MOORE who slotted home from close range.

Spence then had another chance to grab a consolation but his long range effort bounced wide of the right hand post.
