A third successive win saw us move further away from the bottom two and within touching distance of the play-off places at the right end of the table.

It was an unchanged line up from the side which had won at Forfar, although there were a few changes on the bench.

Spence had the ball in the Airdrie net in the opening minute but was in an offside position.

With four minutes gone Hughes headed over following a Callaghan corner while at the other end a flick from Prunty was held by Sneddon.

Smith then sent a shot across the face of the Airdrie goal.

In 16 minutes Lithgow slotted the ball to Prunty on the edge of the Cowden box but his shot was held by the diving Sneddon.

Adamson then came to the rescue with a timely challenge to stop Cox while with 36 minutes gone a curling free kick from Watt was caught by Sneddon.

Just as it looked like the sides would go into the break goal less Greig SPENCE got onto a Brett cross to head home the opener from close range.

The second half opened with Donaldson blocking a Fitzpatrick effort in the box as the Diamonds looked to get back on level terms.

However on the hour mark the game was all but over when Andy MURDOCH unleashed a 30 shot which flew into the top corner of the visitors net.

SPENCE then got his second goal of the afternoon in 71 minutes when he took advantage of a slip from Van Zanten to run through and slot the ball past Parry.
