Cowdenbeath FC 0  Stranraer 2

Date: 23rd January 2016 Kick off: 3:00pm
Competition: Ladbrokes League 1 Referee: Mr Alan Newlands
Venue: Central Park Attendance: 402

After the postponement at Ayr the previous week we finally got back into action after Central Park passed an early morning pitch inspection.

There were three changes to the side which had lost at Ibrox. Grant Adam replaced the injured Jamie Sneddon in goal, Aldin El Zubaidi took over from Pat Scullion who was ill while Ross Caldwell came in for his debut taking over from the departed Gordon Smith.

Stranraer had the first chance of the afternoon with five minutes gone when Malcolm fired in an 18 yard shot which was held by Adam.

With ten minutes gone Caldwell beat two defenders before setting up Hughes who sent his shot just wide of the post.

Adam was again tested by a long range drive four minutes later but held Stirling’s 25 yard effort.

Slack defending from Pettigrew then allowed Brett a shot on goals from ten yards but he miskicked his effort.

Gibson then sent a curling shot from the edge of the box just over the bar while Spence had the ball in the net for us on 30 minutes but the flag was raised for offside.

Robertson of the visitors then sent a shot just wide while Malcolm sent an inviting ball across the Cowden goalmouth but Longworth was unable to connect with the ball at the far post.

Adam then blocked a Gibson effort with his legs and then a Cairney effort was deflected for a corner.

Six minutes from the break Brett fired in a free kick from the edge of the visitors box which was held by keeper Belford.

A minute later Adam slipped on the edge of the box but Longworth was unable to take advantage and the keeper recovered.

As the first half drew to a close Callagahan swung in two corners with Kerr narrowly heading over the second.

The visitors had the ball in the net with 57 minutes gone when a shot from Stirling was parried by Adam and Pettigrew slotted home but he was in an offside position.

Caldwell then saw a shot blocked by Belford but it was Stranraer who broke the deadlock with 64 minutes gone when Willie GIBSON curled a free kick from the edge of the box into the top corner.

Adam then denied Thomson and Stirling and in 71 minutes the keeper appeared to handle the ball outside the box but play went on and as the ball headed for the Cowden goal Malcolm took a touch but was offside.

The visitors however got a second goal with seven minutes to go when Craig MALCOLM slotted home a penalty after Kerr had brought down Stirling.
