COWDENBEATH 1 ARBROATH 2
Saturday 22nd April, Ladbrokes League Two Match No 34, Att 501.

Scott Rumsby’s second goal of the season against the Red Lichties wasn’t enough in our attempt to stage a comeback as we went down to goals from Steven Doris and Ryan McCord last Saturday.

The result left us still three points in arears to both Berwick and Clyde who both lost to Annan and Forfar respectively.

There was one change to the side which had comfortably beaten Stirling with top scorer Kris Renton sitting out the game due to a suspension, with Lewis Moore returning to a reshuffled line up.

Arbroath opened lively and with three minutes gone Gold sent a long ball into the Cowden box but Doris just failed to connect, while at the other end Moore was stopped in his tracks at the edge of the box by Hamilton.

Scott then sent a cross from the left wing into the box but Mullen cleared the danger.

With 19 minutes gone O’Brien sent Carrick through down the left wing but by the time the ball ended in the Arbroath net the flag had been raised for off side.

In 20 minutes Arbroath opened the scoring when Syme was judged to have fouled Steven DORIS 30 yards out and McCord sent his low free kick into the strikers path to slot the ball home.

Minutes later Scott tried his luck with a long range shot which was held by Sneddon, while seven minutes from the break a Mullen free kick into the box was cleared by Whatley.

Three minutes into the second half the visitors went further ahead when Ryan McCORD fired through a crowded home box and his deflected shot deceived Sneddon.

Just after the hour mark we got a lifeline when a Rutherford corner was headed home at the back post by Scott RUMSBY.

Five minutes later Sneddon done well to block a Linn shot with his legs and 13 minutes from time Buchanan sent fellow sub Johnston through on goal to slot home but the flag had went up for offside.

As the game drew to a close Syme found himself in a good position 14 yards out but his shot was held by Gomes.
