Two second half goals in the space of six minutes in the second half from Patrick N’Koyi saw the cup holders progress to the second round and a home tie with Alloa.
For our second trip to Tannadice in the space of 23 days there were four changes to the side which had won against Edinburgh City.
McInally, Swann, Buchanan and Connelly started, while David Syme was suspended for offences carried over from last season while Stirling was playing for parent club Hibernian in the competition.
The home side utilised their squad with only Keatings starting from the side which had beaten QOS.
With just three minutes gone we almost took the lead when an angled shot from Connelly went across the face of the goal and hit the inside of the post before being cleared for a corner by Dailly.
At the other end Fraser set up Keatings but his shot was deflected by Mullen. A lively start continued when Ali Smith went on a long run but saw his final shot blocked.
Buchanan then released by Mullen but his shot was blocked by Mehmet with Pyper heading just wide from the resultant corner by Mullen.
The lively Connelly then jinxed his way through the home box but saw his shot deflected for a corner.
In 29 minutes a low free kick by Fraser was blocked by McGovern who then cleared Keatings follow up. The ball the fell to Fraser whose long range shot took a bounce in front of goal with the keeper managing to tip the ball over the bar.
Both Connelly and Ali Smith saw efforts off target as a lively 45 minutes came to a close.
The home side had a few early efforts as the second half opened with McGovern holding a N’Koyi header and then blocking a Keatings effort.
With 61 minutes gone United took the lead when a run by Fraser saw him cut the ball back to Patrick N’KOYI who fired the ball high into the roof of the net.
Six minutes later it was N’KOYI again who got the second goal of the night when he got on the end of a Flood cross to send a downward header past McGovern.
