East Fife 2  Cowdenbeath FC 1

Date: 4th July 2023 Kick off: 7:30pm
Competition: Friendly Referee:
Venue: Bayview Stadium Attendance:

The Blue Brazil went down to their second narrow defeat to League Two opposition in four days as East Fife fought back to score two goals in the closing 11 minutes at Bayview Stadium on Tuesday night.

It was another useful run out for Calum Elliot’s side with keeper Craig Hepburn making his debut after joining on loan from St Johnstone last week.

Cowdenbeath took the lead with 11 minutes gone when an angled shot from Lucas BERRY in the six -yard box deflected off a home defender and keeper Reece Beveridge was unable to keep the ball out.

East Fife made six changes to their side at the start of the second half but it was the visitors who almost added to the scoring two minutes in when Jamie Docherty weaved his way into the box but sent his shot just wide of the post.

Josh Jack just headed over the bar while just short of the hour mark Hepburn tipped a shot from Nathan Austin over the bar.

Robbie McNab then shot just past the back post following a corner before a long range shot from Aiden McLaughlin whistled past the post.

The East Fife equaliser came with 11 minutes to go when Liam Newton fired in a cross from the left and Gregor NICOL sent a glancing header past Hepburn.

Two minutes later Cowden’s Trialist centre half made a timely challenge do stop Scott Shepherd in his tracks and minutes later Hepburn denied the former Falkirk and Edinburgh City forward.

With four minutes to go the Blue Brazil almost restored their lead when Ewan MacPherson set up Ciaren Chalmers but his shot was tipped over the bar by Beveridge.

The late drama continued with Hepburn tipping a long- range effort from Shepherd over the bar before his counter -part at the other end denied McLaughlin.

Then on the 90th minute Austin set up SHEPHERD 12 yards out and he slotted a low shot home to give the Methil side a narrow win.

Trialist centre half Jacob Comerford, who had also appeared against Stenhousemuir, subsequently joined the Methil side.
